Skin needs to be well hydrated all the times to keep its healthy appearance. Our bodies are composed of up to 70% of water. Blood, brain, muscles, lungs etc all contain a lot of water. Body needs water to regulate the body temperature and for transporting nutrients, removing bodily toxins and waste, and for protecting body organs. A dehydrated body accelerates the ageing process. When body is dehydrated, it results in energy loss, headaches and fatigue. Hence drinking water and consuming moisture-rich foods are necessary for keeping the body hydrated. Only a hydrated body is healthy and disease-free. Water in foods also acts as appetite suppressant and hence helps in losing body weight.
Health is Wealth…Modern sedentary lifestyle increases health risks. Obesity is a common health issue across all age groups of people. Consuming moisture-rich foods may help reduce overweight, ageing process, and other lifestyle related health issues. Drinking plenty of water and consuming moisture-rich fruits and vegetables are the best ways to avoid many lifestyle-related health risks.
Consuming moisture-rich foods on regular basis reduces/dissolves kidney stones and also keeps our digestive system healthy and functioning by keeping bowel function normal and by relieving constipation. Such foods are good for keeping our muscles healthy and for balancing of our body fluids.
Everyone desires a beautiful skin. A beautiful skin is the result of a well-hydrated body. Skin needs to be well hydrated all the times to keep its elasticity and healthy appearance. Consuming lots of moisture-rich fruits and vegetables will nourish the skin with essential nutrients.
Water is the chief component of all vegetables however the highest amount of water is present in cucurbitaceous vegetables (gourds and melons) and leafy vegetables. Cucurbitaceous vegetables such as musk melon, pumpkin and squash gourd are also known as summer vegetables. Consumption of cucurbits are highly recommended during summers because of its higher water content. Consumption of fruit melons such as water melon is also recommended for body hydration during summers. Cucurbits that are rich in moisture include Cucumbers, Pumpkins and Winter Squash, Ash Gourd or Wax Gourd, Bottle Gourd, Sponge Gourd and Ridge Gourd.
Among leafy vegetables, Brassica Leafy Greens such as Water Cress and Garden Cress, and Chinese Cabbages (Napa Cabbages and Pak Choi ) are found to be high in moisture content. Lettuce (Romaine Lettuce, Iceberg Lettuce) is also rich in moisture.
